As I reflect on my time in ministry, I have learned that ministry is about being present with open hearts and minds. The Trinity has been with me in this spiritual journey from 2011 until 2026. I am grateful for the achievement of attaining a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical-Theological Seminary. My first appointment in Battle Creek, Michigan, was at Washington Heights UMC, a predominantly African American church. Then, in 2014, I became the first African American pastor appointed to First United Methodist Church, a predominantly Caucasian church in downtown Battle Creek, in a dual appointment with Washington Heights UMC. My seminary experience with professors, colleagues, Garrett-Evangelical Black Seminarians (G-EBS), and the Black Methodist Church Renewal (BMCR), along with my Master of Education degree, strengthens my call to a diverse community. Each day in ministry has offered unique challenges and profound joys, providing opportunities to grow both in faith and in service to others. In 2017, I was appointed to Redeemer United Methodist Church, Harper Woods, MI., with a loving community. I have been blessed to walk alongside so many individuals, especially with the Anti-Bias Anti-Racism (ABAR) group, including Bishop David Bard and colleagues. These relationships have been a source of inspiration and strength, reminding me daily of the transformative power of compassion, understanding, and hope. As I look ahead in retirement, I pray that we may continue to grow together in faith, love, and service.
