“Sometimes all it takes is a single ray of Sunshine to make the whole world seem lighter.” This sentiment adorned the cover of a brightly colored “thank you” card.
As I prepared for the start of my first appointment, I received some advice from then District Superintendent Reverend Mark Spaw. He told me to take an empty file folder and label it “Thank yous”.
I guess I must have had a dumbfounded look on my face, so he explained. During your ministry, there will be times when you’re the target of “why everything is broken or wrong”, or when the message seems to fall flat, in short; “it’s just not working!” Darn, if he wasn’t right about that, there have been times.
However, the reason for the “thank you file”, was this; when you feel attacked or even weighted down by problems, open that “thank you file” and start reading and keep reading until you feel better.” … Even if it means reading through a second or third time!
I want to extend my own “thank you” to the congregations of Fowlerville First, Morrice UMC, and Bancroft UMC. It has been an honor and privilege to have been your pastor, you have blessed me. Also, I would like to say thank you to colleagues, mentors. With a special thank you to my wife Judy, for being by my side during this journey of faith. To God be the Glory, thanks be to God for the blessings in our lives!
